On this Friday, we talked about Frenkenstein. We need to lear differents things. Firts :

  • The Writer is Mary Shelley. She published her book on 19th century. Mary Shelley's novel's full title is « Frenkenstein ; or The Modern Prometheus ».
Victor Frenkenstein is the crator of a monster very strange so he isn't the crature.
This specimen has no name but, sometimes, he calls himself : « The Adam of your labour ».
  • In Greek mythology, Zeus punished Prometheus for having stolen fire. Victor will somehow steal the power of life.
  • In a Gothic novel, the reader expect to horror, terror, romance etc...
  • Gothic fiction come from romanticism.
  • Prominent features of Gothic fiction include terror (both psychological and physical), mystery, the supernatural, ghosts, haunted houses and Gothic architecture, castles, darkness, death, decay, doubles, madness, Transgression, Excess, secrets, and hereditary curses.
  • The relation ship between Prometheus and Zeus is very difficult. Indeed, Prometheus is a lowly challenger to Zeus's omnipotence and omniscience.
  • The attempts of prometheus to better the lives of his creation brought him into direct conflict with Zeus.
  • Prometheus was arrested and bound to a sale on Mount Kaukasos where an eagle was set to feed upon his ever-regen eting liver

Finally, we studied the Frankenstein myth of Prometheus and at the same time, Frankenstein and novels gothics. It was very interessant ! ;)
